IES Detroit Virtual Meeting: Lighting and Acoustics

January 16 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The Detroit Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society

Temporal Precision and Spatial Blur (Lighting and Acoustics) provides an in-depth look at the new product sector of acoustic lighting: where it came from, how it works, and where it’s going. While some aspects of acoustic lighting can be considered business-as-usual, it has also raised new questions and posed new challenges. This presentation will clarify basic concepts in acoustics and product application for the non-expert, to help build knowledge and intuition about acoustics within the lighting community.

Presenter:

Zackery Belanger

Zackery Belanger is an expert in form and material for acoustic architecture. He is the author of the essay Acoustic Ornament, which argues for the intentional use of “hard” and “non-acoustic” surfaces and objects. In 2017 he founded the Detroit-based studio Arcgeometer. He is a prolific speaker on acoustics, and has worked extensively on architectural projects and products, including the recent emergence of acoustic lighting.

Registration for IES Detroit Virtual Meetings are FREE for members, and $10 for non-members HERE.
